Turweston airfield solar farm is currently one of the largest solar farms in our portfolio. The land area rented by INRG is 90 acres, situated on part of the site of a World war 2 airfield, the site is ideal for a solar farm due to the flat and well concealed nature of the land and its previous use.

Solar farms are becoming increasingly popular land diversification options for farmers because the panels and infrastructure of the solar farm will only occupy about 30% of the rented land area. Therefore, although almost 60000 photovoltaic panels are mounted for this solar farm, the large grassy avenues between panels provide further options for grazing or wildflower planting.

The green electricity generated by this solar farm is sufficient to power over 6000 UK households.

Following community consultations during the planning application process, INRG ensured the safeguarding of established hedge trees that were important to local residents and also planted additional hedgerows, grass and wild flowers.

The existing and enhanced boundary planting effectively hides the development from view, thus having a minimal impact on the wider countryside and landscape in the area.
